Ok, so as you probably noticed, I haven't had a personal life for over a month! My "day job" has me pulled in a million directions preparing for a major launch and preparing the magazine for Party Frosting is eating up much of the rest! I find some time for shopping online ;o)

wanna peek?!?... I ordered these from Save-on-crafts and they came with no wrapping and many were shattered... I called the company and they immediately that day sent me new ones! So now I have a ton, but I love them and now I'll have to find a use for all of them! I love the wooden carrier too - I am hoping to use to serve bagels or something in for a party...

We spent all day yesterday shopping up in PA... here's some of my great finds!!!

WOOHOO!!! Been looking for a floor lamp forever! Scored the brushed nickel one (usually $299) for $119 at the Pottery Barn outlet! WOOT! (PB pic, I was too lazy to stage one ;o)

Ok, doesn't look exciting but we have 4 great metal chairs for the patio and the cushions were ruined - I got these babies (perfect fit!) originally 100 bucks a piece (who would pay that?!?) for $30 bucks a piece at the Restoration Hardware outlet! WOOT!

The only antique we settled on... anyone who knows me rust is my weakness (swoon)... weird, I know! Farm egg basket - $14! LOVE it! Gonna make a liner for it - I always love form AND function!

Not that I needed them... but SurLaTable has their cookie cutters on sale for 79 cents! I snatched up a few ;o) oh and a gourmet "cow tail" like caramel thing that did not last for a pic ;o)

Shoofly pie!!! You can't go to Lancaster without buying one! Have you guys ever had?! It's been part of my life since I was little YUMMMMM!

Update: OMG! I am realizing that the world has been sheltered from this amazing pie!!! It's a brown sugar and molasses gooey fantastic yummy pie! I suggest trying to make one if they don't have them in your town! Our local Amish people make & sell them at our farmer's markets!

My two closest friends that live in my town came over tonight to (finally!) exchange christmas gifts - whew, we are a bit behind! I see them all the time, but we just haven't gotten together to exchange and MAN did they hook a sista' up! I got many more things then shown below, but I wanted to highlight the baking stuff - so fun! I want to make something tonight!

I love going out on Saturday to shop and usually venture alone buy my babe came with me today :o) He has a great eye and I love when he comes and helps me "pretend plan" parties lol...

We went out early and went mattress shopping first, talk about overwhelming! We have a queen and want to move to a king (I want to so I can have room lol). We had gone before the holiday and ventured back out - it took a while but we found something we think we will like and it will be delivered tomorrow! WOOT! Best thing is to always act like you aren't going to buy - NEVER pay the sticker price! And always get delivery, frame and mattress pad for free ;o)

We are SOOO excited!!! We went to our first antique auction this morning and WHAT a BUST! ...why are we excited? Cause we ventured to the next town over and found these great items!!!

You know I am a rustic lova' so I know these might not be for everyone, but we are excited!!!

...we have been looking for an old ladder to use in the corner to hang blankets (and look cool lol)... we found this beauty! Wood and metal - 6ft! We still need to paint the walls... but here's a quick pic...

We also heart old boxes... I am so in love with this one!

Then... we found this.... any guesses???....

... you are thinking mold... press... something, right?! that is what I was thinking... I opened and I said omg - that looks like christmas trees! score! maybe it's a chocolate mold or something...

so I bought it... came home... looked it up - it's a fishing bait metal cast thingy! Well, I am going to get a lead testing kit and if it comes out negative, I am making christmas trees dang-it!

My kitchen gadget drawer is getting CROWDED!!! I needed to find a solution that would allow me to store some of the less used items close by, but out of the way. I am fortunate enough to have a lot of cabinet space, but of course I have it all filled with everything known to man! So I saw this shoe organizer that matches the colors in my kitchen... and ta-da!

So I picked this up at Target for 15.99 I think...

This is what it loos like... VERY well made, I was impressed! but it was too big for my cabinet!

So I cut it in half along the seam and then cut the bottom row off...

Then I just hung, filled and felt relieved I won't be digging to find my teaspoons next time I bake!

...notice all our gadgets in the cupboard?!? told ya! p.s. getting a plug run in the cabinet was one of the best decisions I ever made!

I LOVE to bake and cook and one of my favs is a quick batch of pumpkin pancakes! (recipe here)... The problem is that I often forget to buy buttermilk and when I do, I always end up throwing most of it out! ... I can't justify eating THAT many batches of pancakes people!

So.... I found out you can FREEZE! buttermilk! WOOT! So today I just poured my leftover buttermilk into the icecube trays and then will throw them into a ziplock and I will have pancakes whenever I want them! ...oh and I do the same thing with the pumpkin, open a can, measure out 2 tbsp into a ziplock and freeze (what the recipe calls for)... so if your New Year's resolution is to spend less, waste less or just be greener, freeze!

Where did the New Year already go?!? I spent the weekend baking for my staff (at my "day job") - I promised them cookies but had a bit of a cold over Christmas so I didn't want to bake any germs in! I know everyone is off to their new year resolutions so everyone kind of yelled at me, but then stuffed their faces ;o)

not the best shot... but I was running out the door ;o)

I don't like to make resolutions, I like to make goals. I have a whole detailed list but here are a few... what are yours?

1. Work consciously on my relationships, not only with D but friendships and not forget the little things matter most
2. Take Party Frosting! to the next level - I have wanted to but so many things have stood in the way
3. Finish house projects that are undone so the stress can go away ;o)

Confession... we are juicers ;o)

I figured I would share this secret since we are all making resolutions! I love to juice! It can be expensive, but we stop at our local farm market and buy off of the bulk clearance table - bruised fruit is great for juicing! We picked up some ruby red grapefruit and red oranges for one juice and some red grapes for another juice - so yummy!

Having a great juicer is KEY! People complain a lot about their juicers - I love mine! It's super simple to clean - that's key! I have the Omega 4000 - it's a little bit of investment, but I would do it all over again!

Maybe roughin it isn't my style...

Use to think I was a roughin' it kind of chick - give me a tent and a hike...but, not sure if it is age, but I am starting to reconsider my classification lol...

We go away for Christmas every year (this year we went a little late since my (future) stepson was here till the 24th). So we decided to just go to Atlantic City just for one night and, of course, a blizzard comes!!! We still had a great time in a nice hotel room, awesome shower, view of the ocean and a few spa treatments ;o) ...and I only lost $20 overall gambling! woohoo!

We stayed at Caesar's casino - it was very pretty, but it didn't offer too many slots - which, because we are cheap, we were a little disappointed!

Because of the blizzard, we didn't get to venture out, but it sure did look beautiful! So we stayed in, got spa treatments, ate and gambled... sooo addicted to spa vacations now! I am starting to research a full spa centric vacation for our next outing!...anyone want to buy camping gear?!? ;o)

Do you guys travel for the holidays?

By the second week in December it seems like time just gives up and we are sucked into non-stop until after the holiday! My stepson arrived on Thursday and we have been really enjoying his company. We took him to pick out a tree - his first real one! We went to a local tree farm and he got to pick it out and D chopped it down (how manly) - Douglas thought the process of the auto tree shaker and the tree bagging system were so cool too!

He really did pick out a fantastic tree! It was the kind with the REALLY nasty firm needles tough OUCH! We had to wear gloves to decorate it! lol

I love Groupon and now I love livingsocial! You sign up for your local metro area and every day you can buy a deal! Yesterday I bought a $60 credit for wine.com for $30! Woohoo! Figured I could get Christmas gifts AND a bottle or two for us ;o)

Hi, my name is Kim and I am a plant killer... there I said it! I LOVE having real plants all over the house. When I went into high gear for my Master's and we went to Oregon for 2 weeks... I slowly killed almost ALL of them!

So I went today to buy a whole new set - I am making a vow to put them on a watering schedule - I so have to prove I can keep a plant alive before we start planning to get pregnant lol

I am working on my contribution to the Children's Party Network fundraiser for a fantastic charity called Project Night Night - AWESOME charity that provides a little care package for children entering into homeless shelters to help with the transition - how fantastic?!? I LOVE my discount stores! TJMaxx, Marshalls/Homegoods, Ross... I love finding stuff you wouldn't in the regular stores we have here! Here are my latest finds!

SCORE!!! 4 part round electric buffet! I already have 2 buffets, but they are larger - this one is SO perfect for sides! $35 bucks at Ross! woot!

Have you heard I am going to FINALLY attempt my first turkey this year?!? (I'm 34... it's way past due!) So I just picked up this inexpensive set at Ross - didn't want to invest too much until I decide I'll ever do it again lol... $15 bucks at Ross! Any tips for a first timer?!?

We SO need a new set of towels - can't wait for a wedding registry next year lol... so had to shell out the money now - towels are SOOO expensive!!! I thought we did well for this DKNY ones $70 for 4 bath, 4 hand and 4 washcloths - found Marshalls... Also scored this little cheese dome on clearance baby! $5.50 - couldn't say no ;o) - found at Ross and then I was eyeing up this Autumn basket from Michael's craft store before, but at $3.50 on clearance - SOLD!

I never used to have allergies, but they say your body changes every 7 years, so as a gift of age, I now have some allergies, ugh! I have turned to a holistic measure called a netti pot - it makes ALL the difference... it's just a nasal flush - gross, huh? well, so are allergies lol... I really suggest you try it! it's a little weird to get used to, but I manage my allergies without medication! Let me know if you have any questions... try something new!!!

We (Delaware) are trying to arrange for him to return on Christmas Eve (Texas) so that he can have actual Christmas where is "main" home is - we felt it best. We figured we can make our own Christmas! I am so excited to start traditions with him! He's 8 now - so it's not too late to force them on him ;o) What are your traditions???who

Ok, paper done, traveling done, bday stuff done... I am back!!! Whew... what a weight off! I vow to post at least 3 times a week now! Thanks for sticking by me!

Speaking of bday stuff... the Mr. surprise me with tickets to Avenue Q and an overnight in NYC! We had such a blast! It was a great way to end my school life and celebrate my bday! ...for those that don't know Avenue Q - famous play with dirty puppets - but deals with tough issues like racism and prejudices - just a fantastic play!

Taking a short break from finishing my thesis this week (WOOHOO PEOPLE!!!!) to share what I find to be a hilarious review about a Target store... came across this looking for the address...

Does toilet paper grow on said tree? do you use said tree as a toilet? and what kind of products would said tree need? and I love how she tries to play off her wild kids as just "active because of park time"... maybe running around the toilet tree didn't wear them out... sorry, it doesn't take much to humor me lol

first, omg - I am a total slacker keeping up with this blog! I promise now that my thesis is almost done and my vaca is almost done, I'll force much more of my boring life on you lol!

so....OMG! I totally fell in love with Thai ice tea again! I loved it when I had it a few months ago, but then I forgot about it! I had it in bubble tea form (first time for bubble tea!) and OMG it was SOOOO good! If you haven't had it, try it! Now I just have to find it to make it myself!

Ok, there is no doubt I love to window shop and I LOVE finding great finds... but sometimes I find stuff that is just too weird not to share!

I've heard of a card for everything.... but wha?!? .... not only a card for a friend/loved one hit hard by the recession, but it's a humor card! wow...

We have a local store here that has bulk goods broken down into small packaging - great to find all kinds of spices, baking goods and candies... we happened upon every gummi candy you could think of... and this one, I bet you didn't... ummmm... gummi chicken feet? wow...

I am known for a lot of things.... some I am not so proud of, some I pride myself on! One of those is being thrifty! I slice and dice [insert voice of sham wow guy] travel plans 5 million ways to ensure the biggest bang for our buck!

One of my favorite tools is kayak.com - it's an engine that searches airfares, car rentals and hotels. I always look at separate websites too, but this is a great starting place! You can also set up fare alerts from one airport to another to let you know if the price of tickets to Hawaii ever drop below $200 bucks ;o)

ok, I missed national S'mores Day by one day... which is less days than I missed my bills, phone calls and emails by this month rofl... this month has been BRUTAL! You ever sit in the middle of the room and just think if the world would stop and let you be for a few days you could get life under control?!?

I'll share my favorite s'more's recipe. I use the chocolate cupcake part for every chocolate cupcake I make! - including the ones pictured in the photo - chocolate cupcake with pumpkin frosting with cinnamon and chocolate chips on top. I made these for my bday last year (in Oct)

Yes, it's bad I brought my own cupcakes on my bday to work, like you used to for school rofl... I have to say I was mad excited to use my kitchen torch to toast the marshmallow (fire, fire heehee). Another benefit was making the marshmallow topping homemade, my veggie friends could enjoy too! (no gelatin in it)

WARNING! Makes 2 dozen!
From Martha Stewart Website

2 1/4 cups plus 2 tablespoons sugar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (not Dutch-processed)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs (from about 20 squares)
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
9 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
Marshmallow Frosting

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 standard muffin tins with cupcake liners; set aside.
Sift 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together into the bowl of an electric mixer. Using the paddle attachment, mix ingredients together on low speed.
In a large bowl, mix together eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Add to flour mixture and beat on medium speed for 30 seconds. Scrape down sides of bowl and continue mixing on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add boiling water and stir to combine; set cake batter aside.
Place graham cracker crumbs, remaining 1/4 cup sugar, and melted butter in a large bowl; stir until well combined.
Place 1 tablespoon graham cracker mixture into the bottom of each prepared muffin cup. Use the bottom of a small glass to pack crumbs into the bottom of each cupcake liner. Reserve remaining graham cracker mixture for topping.
Place 2 teaspoons chocolate in each muffin cup. Transfer muffin tins to oven and bake until the edges of the graham cracker mixture is golden, about 5 minutes. Remove from oven and fill each muffin cup three-quarters full with cake batter. Sprinkle each with remaining chocolate and graham cracker mixture. Return to oven and bake, rotating pans halfway through baking, until tops are firm and a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean, 18 to 20 minutes. Transfer muffin tins to a wire rack and let cupcakes cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove cupcakes from pan and let cool completely.
Transfer frosting to a large pastry bag fitted with a large plain round or French tip (such as Ateco #867 or Ateco #809). Pipe frosting in a spiral motion on each cupcake. Transfer cupcakes to a baking sheet. Using a kitchen torch, lightly brown the frosting, taking care not to burn the cupcake liners. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container, up to 2 days.

I am total OCD hyper-organized in my life - label maker is my bff ;o) Here are a few of my most handy ways to organize...

I keep a business card holder with paint chips and pics of things each room of the house. When you are out shopping and you peep something fantastic, you just pull out your holder and see if it will go!

Another tip is I used to bookmark the heck out of recipes I wanted to try... and that's where they went to die lol... Like a hope chest waiting for me to get married and finally use them rofl... so I decide to save a photo (I'm a visual person) and keep in my Google Picasa with tags (you can search on) and the link to the recipe. Now when I am looking for something to bake, I can look thru the pics and read any notes I have left from the last time too!

I avoid the camera at alllllll costs! I have been trying to get a pic that would be "approved" by me to share with the public, so I had to settle... hoping to get a good shot this weekend after I get a keratin treatment done... but for now... here I am!

Yes, that is me taking a lame iphone shot in our bathroom mirror rofl... not only do I look like I am 18, I act like it too... bangs look a little messed up in the pic, but they (and my whole self), I like to think, look better in person lol

on a more appetizing note... the garden has been so good to us this year! We have had so much enjoyment in making meals with our fresh veggies! Tomatoes are just now turning, can't wait for the big ones!

Zucchini everywhere!

Omg, our veggie garden is doing great this year! Here's how much we picked in the past 24 hours from 3 plants!!!

So there are a few new recipes I will be trying this weekend including zucchini butter and soup... I have tried this zucchini bread recipe and it is SOOOO good! We only took a pic of the wrapped version (douglas helped me wrap up for a neighbor).

Good 'ol Paula Deen recipe!

Ingredients

3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 cups sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs, beaten
1/3 cup water
2 cups grated zucchini
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, nutmeg, baking soda, cinnamon and sugar. In a separate bowl, combine oil, eggs, water, zucchini and lemon juice. Mix wet ingredients into dry, add nuts and fold in. Bake in 2 standard loaf pans, sprayed with nonstick spray, for 1 hour, or until a tester comes out clean. Alternately, bake in 5 mini loaf pans for about 45 minutes.

We went to the beach after work today to introduce my (future) stepson to the ocean and omg, I could not have prepared myself of the joy I would get from seeing the world through his eyes! He was overwhelmed.... it was so great! He was a "water bender" - apparently a cartoon (and movie) called Avatar introduce this super power ;o) At one point he put up a peace sign and told the waves to calm down he comes in peace rofl...

2nd half totally not PC, but I have to share!

...but the funniest thing happened on the way home - he has the most wild imagination and it leaves us in tears! We were teaching him about Roman gods (yes, we are all about education all the time lol)... so we told him to make up a god and tell us about him. Well, this god was fighting on planets Jupiter and Ranus (pronounced ouranus) so we had to keep saying it's not Ranus, it's Uranus, which as the 15 year old mentality we have - had us laughing to we cried. Then said god was begging the other bad gods to stop because Ranus had enough wet beavers thrown at it... and to make matters worse... he then sang an impromptu song about a taco in his pants and he woke up and didn't know how he got a taco in his pants... Only thing that is redeeming - we never told him why we thought it was so funny ;o)

yes, I am immature and so, so wrong... but sometimes things make me chuckle like a highschool boy - please forgive me ;o)

Ok, $10 buys you so much food at Taco Bell - we fed 3 people with 2 "big boxes" and food left over... I don't even WANT to think about what is in what we purchased that it can be produced and sold at a profit for $5 per box & drink! ... however, on to the reason for the post - here is the front of said box -

Being an instant mom for the summer has come with a lot of joy, frustration, selfish and unselfish moments... I have to say one of the best moments so far is to see the joy of father and son reading together every night before bed... almost brought a tear to my eye ;o)

I do a lot of work around literacy in my community - I believe it's such an important thing for kids to associate reading with something positive - I know I am a life long learner because of it! ... so even at the risk of being a public service announcement (rofl)... don't forget to find time to read together no matter how old or young!

Hi, my name is Kim and my body is JACKED up! lol... I have been in more car accidents then should be feasible (all not my fault - swear!), lots of broken bones and muscle damage over the years, I battle other health issues and I am a total stresser! ...so I need all the help I can get to feel better!

I am a huge believer in marrying traditional medicine with holistic treatments. The latest thing I am trying is this acupressure mat. Based on ancient ways of applying pressure to key areas for relaxation and healing, this mat is supposed to bring me harmony, peace and pain relief (holding breath)... I have only tried it one night, but I am cautiously optimistic that it is helping (at least my shoulder pain so far). It's basically thousands of sharp plastic disks that dig into you... yes, I am down for trying anything ;o)

Wow, I can't believe it's been over a week since I have posted! Being an instant mom for the summer has taken over my life! I totally respect all you mom's out there! And I only have ONE eight year old to keep up after! lol... So far, my (future) stepson has been great - he has good manners and pretty chill (except after sugar rofl)...

He's even pretty useful... handy in the kitchen (making sugar cookies next to my bff the kitchen aid!)

Handy in the garden... mandatory chore - weeding (who is going to do it when he is gone? rofl)

And handy in chasing the geese out of the yard rofl... (yes, that is my sad, sad "yard" with no grass lol - we are working on it!)

Short story... trip to WV sucked MAJOR for the most part... long story... read on!

They say tragedy + time = comedy... I am not ready to laugh yet, but here is some of the 20 cent tour of my tramatic birthday gift to my fiance (D) last week.....

I planned a few days in the mountains of WV camping under the stars, cuddling, laughing, playing cards and sharing moments without distraction, a day of kayaking with my love down a quite mountain lake, leisurely hikes, ATVs through mud puddles and over logs while holding tight to my man as I ride tandem and a romantic mountain bike tour of the woods that led down to a secluded beach where we will feed each other snacks and talk about all the fun we are having....

ummmm yeah. That is what I had envisioned... went a little more like this... so humid that gnats and flies were attacking our face with such a fury that I thought I was in a Sally Struthers info-merical for feed the children... after about 2 hours of playing twister with the new tent - red stick left foot right hand green pole... we managed to get the tent up. Soaked, my fiance' looks at me like wow, thanks for the present... we settle in and begin making the best of it - turn on the lantern to begin our night of electronic-less fun and the lantern shines about enough for me to see the glisten of sweat still on D's brow... unable to see, we still make the best of it... fast forward... illegal rave begins on the campgrounds hundreds of people popping pills, dancing, screaming and playing music and chanting over a PA system... 3:30am, that's about when I think we finally fell asleep... 4:30am... oops, need more air in mattress.... 5:20am morning sun and birds... cancel kayak trip, way to tired... get mountain bikes... 3 1/2 miles to the beach he says... over 10 miles later... we give up... it was all downhill to there... that means all UP HILL on the way back. We don't have mountains in DE, nor hills...

mile 2 on the way back, omg, we don't have any more water
mile 3 let's make the most of it,
mile 4 where's the map,
mile 5 should I save my urine in case we are stuck in here forever?,
mile 6 figuring out how many pieces I can ration a pop tart in to figure out how many days we can last in the woods,
mile 7 this is the worst bday present I have ever given someone,
mile 8 should we just wait for rescue crew?
mile 9 is the wedding still going to be on?
mile 10.... STRAIGHT uphill, no not hill, straight up CLIFF... I am just going to lay here and beg to be eaten by a bear....

Well, me and D (fiance') have been in WV for a few days celebrating his birthday and let me tell you... it didn't go like the vision in my head! I am still trying to get back into life, so I will tell you some of the stories once my post traumatic stress disorder settles down!

We look like some kind of star wars characters rofl (with my forehead all broke out from the trials of the day before... to be discussed later lol).... this is before the mud... let me tell you, riding the ATV through the mountains of West Virginia and splashing thru mud puddles and rolling over trees was SOOO much fun!

We have a set of deer that roam the woods behind us - but sometimes we go weeks without ever seeing them. We were so happy to watch them drink and play in the water today....

It has been raining here all week, so we FINALLY got to plant the garden! Ritas and Boots

Some of us are blessed with having a water ice place called Rita's... omg... this water ice is made with fresh fruit and even has pieces in it! It is all saturated in the ice - not the kind that the ice and flavor seems separate. You can mix up the flavors but my favorite is raspberry lemon.... YUM!!! One of these, my love and the top down last night... what a great way to drive home!

Speaking of being indulgent... I have had a rough two weeks and nothing makes me feel better than shoes (besides food)! A trip to Baltimore and a stop off at a Western place set me back too much to justify ;o) I am not a western kind of chick, nor do I line dance... I just have always wanted a pair of cowgirl boots! These are so amazingly comfortable! (insert the song these boots were made for walkin'!) My good friend Ann (a vegetarian) would die... but the leather smells soooo good!

Goslings and Firebird

How dang cute are these guys! These are the 8 goslings I was promising! ...laying in a dead patch of grass in my yard, sigh... I am still struggling to get a lawn in some hard to grow areas! grrrr....

Here is one of my favorite birds on the pond - we call him "Firebird" (yes, we name them all cause we are lonely people lol)... We named him this because you can see that under his stark black is red, orange and yellow and looks AMAZING when he flies! He has a really beautiful song too :o)

Caretakers

I don't this to be a sad post - the last of my grandparents (my grandmother) passed away this morning. Somethings I think it's time to go and I am glad she is not suffering any longer...

I wanted to really post because I wanted to focus on the caretakers - my father became the caretaker of both my grandparents until they both passed (my grandfather passed last year). It is an AMAZINGLY difficult and trying role to be a caretaker. I wanted to take this time to say thank you and bless all of you that look after sick love ones... whether it be a child of special needs or an elderly member that can no longer do for themselves. My heart truly admires the strength and energy you put into every day. I am not sure if anyone ever stops and says thank you for your selfless kindness and devotion to those you love. I am sure it doesn't mean as much coming from a stranger, but I say thank you :o)

Rework and Future dinner...

Hi my name is Kim and I have a serious DIY problem lol... I shouldn't attempt 3/4 of what I have done! I have framed, drywalled a basement, laid hardwood and tile, knocked down walls, built walls ... and I still don't learn not to do it! lol...

So part of what is taking me away from fun stuff is my current rework - I am having to rebuild my raised veggie beds from last year - mainly because I have to level out the dirt in front for a patio kinda area and second because I should have used more supports and they were bowing just a little this year... sigh...

Last year... all tall and filled with yummy veggies....

now... lowering them 2 boards, only have the right side done, now I have to do the left then cut all the posts... grrrrr....

We have a rolling greenhouse cart (you can see the plastic & condensation) from Lowes (so fantastic!)... our babies are growing and will be ready to move outside as soon as I get everything done!

Life and Bacon

Whew! I have had one of those whirlwind couple of "life" days! I know you have had them where there is way too much good, bad and ugly crammed into TOO small of a space! sigh... but weather is good, had the day off of work to handle some things and feeling back on track! whew....

Me and my fiance' (Damian) got to have lunch at one of my fav restaurants in the area (about an hour from my house but we were up that way). Firebirds is SO dang yummy - and I eat WAY too much garlic ranch dressing on everything when I am there. It's homemade and ridiculously fantastic. The restaurant is beautiful, even the bathrooms! Here is my favorite design element that I so want in my house! How beautiful is that wine wall!?! I ordered a BLT and D got a fantastic steak sandwich and we split half and half (awww). Let me tell you, this thing had at least a pound of bacon on it! I LOVE bacon, but there is a tipping point, I have now discovered, of too much bacon! Had to pull a few pieces off - gasp! wasted bacon!

Ugh! I had to break down and buy a new laptop today - I had a really cheap one for about 3 years and it finally is on its last legs - I replaced with another low end one - I really spend most of my time just on the web ;o) But not an expense I was looking to bite off!

I did cheer up when I stopped at our local TJMaxx... if you lived here, you would know what that is the only place I find things... think 3rd world country ;o) You may have caught on to my bird obsession... but I just LOVE these pillows! I took a quick photo with my iphone - so you can't really tell, but the flowers match the couch exactly - like a seafoam/blue/gray

Idiot, Beavers, Stamps & Punches...

First, I am such an idiot! I didn't turn on the email notifications of blog comments on this blog - so I was thinking no one loved me! lol... I got to read all your messages and so happy to hear from ya!!! You guys are all way too nice!

I have a pond on my property and we have been VERY suspicious of some chewed branches... it's confirmed! We have a beaver! I am all kinds of dumb excited - I am all attached to the animal families that live out there (yes, we are lonely lol)...we named him Sam

Stamps & Punches... some of you have asked for me to pepper in some organization tips - I am obsessed about organization, but I am also totally frugal! I'll post some things I have done and hope they will inspire you along the way! Remember, getting started is the HORRIBLE part... once you get your inventory now done, keeping up is much easier.

I keep a punch and stamp book - just paper in a cheap binder. Simple - punch and stamp every one, keep them with like things (left is a misc page - girl can't categorize everything lol)

Punches - they all get thrown into big black file boxes from Ikea

Stamps - my stamps go into a homemade files system - cheap photo box (Michael's has them this week $1.50!). I add a stamp "ID" # on the pic in the stamp book above (ex. C105). I made index card holders using just paper and gluing an extra piece to create a tab I can write the ID # on. Next, I cut up plastic sheet protectors and stapled them to the back of each index card I made and slide the stamps in. When I find a stamp I want to use in my stamp book, I read the ID #, open the stamp library, pull out the ID card, flip it over, there's my stamp! VA-LA! 2 seconds...I try and coordinate the ID with the category - "C" is for "Christmas" ... yes, I am sick ;o)

I am more of a lurker and not a participant in most blog "events"... however, "this one at Serenity Now" really caught my eye... It's a dishing it party... I am going to post the questions from the "event" below and answer and leave my link there so more people (and my current peeps) can read a little about my blog.

- Since September 2009 - but didn't really get serious until about December because I was writing the first half of my thesis sept - dec ;o)

Why did you start blogging?

- I have all this CRAP on my computer lol that I save - inspiration for parties and such and thought and I didn't really have it cohesive... so I though hey - why not throw it up on a blog and if someone else wants to look, have at it... I never thought I would grow into something I am more and more passionate about every day!

Tell me about your blog's title. Why did you choose it?

- my fiance' actually picked it - at first I was going to post all kinds of "frosting" - parties, home, jewelry, etc... so he said "frost me" -- like taking something plain and adding "frosting". As soon as I got started, I knew I had to listen to my heart and focus on just the party planning stuff

What do you blog about?

Well, on Frost Me! It's all about parties/events.... on here, Underneath the Frosting... it's all about me, crafts, shopping, well... just anything that I want to force you guys to read lol

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

OMG - totally the interaction - LOVE the people I meet and interact with...that and finding new fun things!

Ribbon & Task board

Did you know Michael's craft store is having 60% off their basic ribbons!?! Hello! I can't even tell you how much I have spent and I'll probably go back for more lol... a few of you have dropped me notes about it, so I know you're shopping too! I've never seen that kind of discount... whew, making a girl happy!

Next... Below is not an over-the-top project - but we needed a quick place to keep track of special items we don't normally buy (picture items are just for show - couldn't let you see all the bad stuff lol)... So I took an old picture frame and used my cricut to cut out letters and dots. I used this blue EK success 2-way glue (it's a blue pen) - you can put it on and adhere for permanent or let it dry first and it becomes like a post-it-note.... so do the latter... once dry, then you can stick the letters on the back side of the glass - this allows you to be able to wipe the front off without touching the letters/dots. We use dry erase markers on it. p.s. don't mind our builder paint - we haven't got to painting most of the first floor yet ;o)

Me & my fiance' are such big kids - we probably see more kids movies than adult ones lol. We saw "How to Train Your Dragon" yesterday in 3D - FANTASTIC movie. The 3D glasses were actually plastic glasses - I was shocked - when I was a kid it was here are these blue and red paper glasses...how times have changed ;o)

A few people have asked for a peek inside the my craft room. I'll warn ya that I am hyper-organized so everything is in a box or binder. Maybe I'll even post some organization tips later on..

Saltines and Geocaching...

First... I ate like half a package of saltines today - my fiance' eats them ALLLL the time and I always think of being sick when I think of saltines... then today I ate one, then two... then stopped myself in half of a sleeve! YUM! So simple, yet so delicious and oh so yummy salty!!! I love when you rediscover a food in your adult life and have a totally different opinion!

Second... does this happen to you when you go to the craft store for ONE thing?

Ok, it's not SO bad - most of it is from the dollar bins (that makes it justifiable, right?!?)... and more than half are for a future play date for my (future) step-son. He's 8 and will be here for the summer and I think he and my friend's kids would love a play date going geocaching!

What is geocaching you say - only the best thing ever HELLO!?! (sorry saltines)... Basically there are millions of boxes hidden all around the world including down the street from, I am sure, all of your houses - no really... You go to geocaching.com and put in your address. Next you need a handheld GPS (the car ones won't be accurate enough to get you close enough)... here's our first model (about $120). You put in (or download) the longitude and latitude of the hidden cache... then you are off to find it! It's treasure hunting basically - most caches have little things in it for the kids - the rules are leave something, take something.

We are HUGE geocachers so feel free to ask questions! It's great fun for adults and children, alike - the site tells you how hard it will to find (and how difficult the walk there will be). I can't wait to give the boys compasses, flashlights and binoculars to take along!

I heart TJMaxx and Homegoods... I always find the best things! Here is my latest party find.... and don't mind the dead grass in the picture lol... I have a LOT of attending to do in the yard this year! I love this for so many reasons...

first, it was only $19.99!
It is silver - total silver chick
It is SUCH a room saver with the 3 stacked tiers
It would make anything look classy laying on there!

You will see at my next party (when I force myself to remember to take lots of pics - I am SO bad at that!) how many serving platters I have - it's totally an obsession and encourages me to make WAY too much food every time!

Few initial things about me you might not know.....

I'm 33 and just now found my prince charming (awww)... got engaged in January this year, wedding to be fall of 2011
I am an IT Project Manager by day for technology throughout the (small) State of Delaware... and love running the Frost Me! blog by night ;o)
I am HUGE into DIY! I have finished my own basement, laid hardwoods and tile... latest project is a retaining wall and patio - go women power!
I want to use Frost Me! as motivation to open my own brick & mortar business 1-2 years from now
I hope to open Frost Me! Studios online within the next 2 months... stay tuned!
